What these numbers mean.

This dashboard reads an official public police dataset and checks it hourly. Records can change as reports are reviewed, corrected, added, or removed.

Records, geography & refresh

Record model. Each row is a published APD crime record carrying a NIBRS offense and charge identifier. One incident number can appear on multiple rows, so this is not a count of unique incidents, victims, arrests, or convictions.

Map geography. The map uses 242 official Atlanta neighborhood polygons and the neighborhood name carried in the crime layer. APD excludes records without valid coordinates from the public source; other unmatched rows stay citywide but outside this choropleth.

Refresh. Atlanta Police says the open-data portal updates hourly. This site checks the official feature service hourly and displays the latest report date returned.

Interpretation. A police record is not a conviction, and a raw count is not a population-adjusted crime rate. Use the map to examine patterns inside one consistent source.
