What these numbers mean.
This dashboard reads an official public police dataset and checks it hourly. Records can change as reports are reviewed, corrected, added, or removed.
Records, geography & refresh
Record model. Each row is a public police incident-offense record. Classifications are preliminary and the source omits records protected by publication rules, including some sensitive offenses.
Map geography. The current official boundary layer exposes 41 DPD sector polygons grouped into police divisions. Source records assigned to sector 130 remain in the citywide total because that polygon is absent from the boundary layer.
Refresh. Dallas updates the public incident file as its records system changes. This site checks it hourly and displays the latest report date returned.
Interpretation. A police record is not a conviction, and a raw count is not a population-adjusted crime rate. Use the map to examine patterns inside one consistent source.
