What these numbers mean.
This dashboard reads an official public police dataset and checks it hourly. Records can change as reports are reviewed, corrected, added, or removed.
Records, geography & refresh
Record model. Each row is a preliminary Buffalo Police crime-incident record. The source warns that further investigation may change the facts or classification, and rows are not convictions.
Map geography. The map joins the source’s Police District field to the City’s five official Police District polygons. Null and unknown district rows stay citywide but outside the choropleth.
Refresh. OpenData Buffalo says the crime-incident dataset is automated daily. This site checks the official Socrata API hourly and displays the latest incident date returned.
Interpretation. A police record is not a conviction, and a raw count is not a population-adjusted crime rate. Use the map to examine patterns inside one consistent source.
