HOUSTON AT A GLANCE

Read the local pattern.

Houston’s official service publishes recent NIBRS Group A records in separate person, property, and society layers. Its rolling window is visibly different from the year-to-date files used by several other cities.

READ BEFORE USING

What these numbers mean.

This dashboard reads an official public police dataset and checks it hourly. Records can change as reports are reviewed, corrected, added, or removed.

Records, geography & refresh

Record model. Each published point is a recent HPD NIBRS record. This view includes the official Group A person, property, and society layers and excludes Group B and “not a crime” layers.

Map geography. The map uses official HPD beat polygons. Out-of-jurisdiction or unmatched records remain in the citywide total but cannot be assigned to a beat polygon.

Refresh. The official service exposes a rolling recent period. This site checks the service hourly and prints the exact start and end dates returned.

Interpretation. A police record is not a conviction, and a raw count is not a population-adjusted crime rate. Use the map to examine patterns inside one consistent source.
