What these numbers mean.
This dashboard reads an official public police dataset and checks it hourly. Records can change as reports are reviewed, corrected, added, or removed.
Records, geography & refresh
Record model. Each row is a NIBRS offense record identified by a case, NIBRS code, and offense sequence. This is not a count of unique incidents, victims, arrests, convictions, or people.
Map geography. The map uses LAPD’s 21 official Geographic Areas—police service divisions such as Hollywood, Pacific, and 77th Street. They are not neighborhood boundaries.
Refresh. LAPD publishes revisions to the current NIBRS file. This site checks the official source hourly and displays the latest occurrence date returned by the dataset.
Interpretation. A police record is not a conviction, and a raw count is not a population-adjusted crime rate. Use the map to examine patterns inside one consistent source.
